Have you ever noticed that children usually look a lot like their parents? Sometimes they look like dad, but act like mom. Or they look like mom but act like dad. Some people are a unique mix, too.
Everything about you comes from your parents—like your earlobes. Did you know that there are two different kinds of earlobes? Some people have an earlobe that’s firmly attached to the side of their head. Other people have more of a hang-down earlobe.
What you get for an earlobe depends on what your mom and dad have, because earlobes are something we get from our parents. One of our daughters has my earlobes and the other has my husband’s kind.
Now take a look at your toes. Go ahead and wiggle them around a little bit, and then look at them very carefully. Some people’s big toe is the longest one on their foot. But on other people, the longest toe is actually the one right beside the big toe! Again, what you get depends on what your mom and dad have. The length of your toes is something you get from your parents.
In fact, just about everything about you comes from your parents: The color of your eyes, the shape of your nose, and the way you giggle.
In the Bible, it says that we are all God’s children. And if we’re all God’s children, then we should be able to find things that we got from Him, too! Let’s look at this verse:
“God blesses those who work for peace, for they will be called the children of God.” (Matthew 5:9)
Have you heard the saying, “Blessed are the peacemakers”? God wants us all to make peace. Maybe you’ve seen people fighting or arguing and you really want them to stop. Maybe you don’t like it when you see other people hurting each other. Well, this desire for peace is a gift from your Heavenly Father—it means you’re just like Him!
It’s important to remember that we are God’s children. This also means that other people watch us to see what God is like. So this month, why not let the people around you see just how much you are like your Heavenly Father? Why not be a peacemaker and make it a wonderful new day—a new day with Jesus!
