Has it been windy at your house? Wind can be noisy and cold, but it is the best weather for one activity—kite flying!
Kites are so beautiful! There are so many different kinds, such as colorful diamond shapes, animal shapes, kites with long tails and some with colorful ribbons. They are all perfect when they’re flying high above in a clear blue sky.
Do you know what the most important part of the kite is? It’s not the beautiful floating ribbons—it’s the string! Yes, the kite wouldn’t be any good at all without the string. The string keeps the kite grounded—attached to something. The string keeps the gorgeous kite safe and secure so it can float and fly in the wind.
In some ways, we are like beautiful kites, too. There is a verse in the Bible that gives us a hint of what our “string” is.
“Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong.” (Ephesians 3:17)
When Christ makes His home in our hearts, our roots will grow down deep into His love. God’s love and care for us keeps us grounded. His love is like the string that guides our life. When we are connected to Him, we are safe—just like when the kite is safely connected to the string.
So how do we stay connected to Jesus? How do we make sure the string is strong and unbreakable? Spend time every day with Him. Talk to Him, read His Word. Then, live your life like you really believe in Jesus. This way you are sure to stay connected to Him and to keep your string strong!
If the weather gets windy this week, get outside and fly a kite! As you hold tight to that string, remember God’s love for you and make it a wonderful new day—a new day with Jesus.
