So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. (1 Corinthians 10:31)
Last week I was thinking about this verse, and wondering how I can eat and drink to the glory of God. I think I can do that by making healthy choices in what I eat—like apples! They’re delicious, aren’t they? Apples were my favorite fruit when I was a kid. Still are!
My favorite kind of apple is the light red kind. They are crunchy and sweet. There are all kinds of different apples. There are the crisp green Granny Smith ones. They’re a little tart, and not as sweet. Then there are the dark red McIntosh apples and Red Delicious apples.
Apples are delicious in pies, dried as fruit leather and even chopped up in a salad. Mmm…apple, walnut and lettuce salads are delicious.
Have you ever heard someone say, “An apple a day keeps the doctor away?” What do you think that means? Well, it means that if you eat something healthy—like an apple— every day, then you won’t get sick and have to see the doctor! It isn’t quite that easy, but it is true. If you eat lots of yummy fruits and vegetables then you will be healthier, and you won’t get sick as often. You’ll be eating and drinking to the glory of God!
Fruits and veggies, like apples, are full of nutrients that our body needs. Apples have vitamins A, B, C and E in them. Other fruits have different amounts of vitamins, so if you eat a lot of different fruits and vegetables, then you will get all of the important vitamins your body needs to stay healthy.
The next time you are in the grocery store, stop and take a good look around at all the different fruits and vegetables. There are fruits and veggies in every color of the rainbow. Pick a fruit or vegetable you’ve never tried before, find a good recipe for it and try it for dinner!
So try a new fruit or veggie and make today a wonderful day—a new day with Jesus!
