It is almost a brand-new year—a new year to start over with God! This time of year is a wonderful opportunity to remember God’s promise of forgiveness. Psalm 51:7 says: “Purify me from my sins, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.”*
Whiter than snow! There is something almost magical about the first snowfall of winter. Everything is pure and clean and fresh. A new year is a great time to make a fresh start. It’s a time to change bad habits and start anew with God. God promises that if we confess our sins to Him, He will forgive us. He will cleanse us from our sins and make us whiter than snow.
God created you as a marvelous and wonderful person. He had a perfect plan for your life when He made you. Sadly, God’s children aren’t perfect, are we? Sometimes we go against God’s plan for our lives and make bad choices.
Our sin is like a big blob of red spaghetti sauce right in the middle of a clean white T-shirt! God doesn’t want us to go around with the stain of sin on us. God wants to forgive us, no matter how terrible we think our sin is. So when we tell God about our sin, He gladly forgives us. It is like the big spaghetti sauce stain just disappears! The sin disappears and we become whiter than snow.
God loves us no matter what we do wrong. We are all His children and He wants to clean us. He is eager to forgive us. He always gives us another chance to follow His plan for our life. So, even if God has forgiven you for your sins before, He still wants to hear from you. He still wants to clean you. He is always willing to give you a fresh start.
So today, think about what you’d like to do differently this year. A new year is a chance to start fresh with God. It is a good time to make a good habit of reading your Bible every day. It is a good time to get rid of a bad habit. It is a great time to start fresh and put on a new, clean T-shirt. So, ask God for forgiveness for your sins, and then thank Him. Start the New Year whiter than snow and make today a wonderful new day—a new day with Jesus!
