Giving Thanks for Big, Fluffy Clouds
By Jean Boonstra

“Your unfailing love, O Lord, is as vast as the heavens: your faithfulness reaches beyond the clouds.” (Psalm 36:5)

Are there any clouds in the sky at your house today? Some of my favorite days are warm sunny days where big fluffy white clouds float through the blue sky. Clouds really are beautiful, aren’t they?

Maybe you’ve ridden on an airplane on a cloudy day. It is such an amazing feeling to watch the clouds float right past the airplane window, so close that you feel as if you could reach out and touch them. When I fly past clouds, or lie in the grass and admire them in the sky, I always have to whisper, “Wow!” God is so awesome to create our world with all of its beauty and wonder. The clouds seem so far away, but His love reaches far beyond the clouds.

So, what exactly is a cloud anyway? Well, a cloud is made up of a few simple things: water and tiny pieces of dust. The air that is all around us contains water—did you know that? But close to the earth we can’t see the water because it is invisible.

The water is actually an invisible gas called water vapor. When the air rises further above the Earth, it gets cooler. As the air cools, this water vapor condenses—gets really close together—and becomes water droplets. These teeny tiny water droplets then find all the dust bits that are floating in the air and stick to them. When this happens, clouds are made! So the beautiful fluffy clouds are really just water and dust! Isn’t God amazing to be able to create such wonderful things out of water and dust?

God created our Earth in perfect balance so that all of nature works perfectly together. He created the water and the air, and He knew that when the air rose, it would cool. God created our world perfectly so that it would provide for our needs.

The science in our natural world shows us that nothing happens by accident! God created all things for a reason and a purpose. He created our amazing world to work beautifully and wonderfully.

The next time a big fluffy cloud floats above you, stop and remember that God’s love reaches even higher than the clouds. Look up at the clouds and make today a wonderful new day—a new day with Jesus!
